SeaWorld Wild Days Promotes Wildlife Conservation In A Fun Atmosphere

SeaWorld Wild Days Promotes Wildlife Conservation

Wild Days - March 7-28 ~ www.socalwithkids.com

SeaWorld Wild Days, an all-new event is happening weekends in March 2015. I was especially excited to go when I heard about some of the incredible Animal Ambassadors that were scheduled to be part of the event, including Julie Scardina and TV personality Jack Hanna. I grabbed our passes and took our daughter and youngest son to the park the first day of the event to check it out.

~Up-Close Animal Connections~

SeaWorld Wild Days Animal Connection ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Some of the neat things that are part of SeaWorld Wild Days include up-close animal connections. Our daughter’s love of penguins began at SeaWorld when she was just two years old, so when we saw an animal connection opportunity with a Magellanic Penguin, we were both super excited! Other animal connections happening the day that we visited included cheetahs visiting from the Columbus Zoo, and a variety of animals from the Animal Connections area of the park.

~Shows Inside Mission Bay Theater~

Wild Days Show with Julie Scardina ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Special shows are happening inside Mission Bay Theater during SeaWorld Wild Days, including presentations by leading animal experts. There are different themes, varying on the weekends, and assorted people leading the shows (check the lineup below). We saw a presentation by Animal Ambassador Julie Scardina, which was awesome! It included a handful of different animals including a lemur, porcupine, cheetahs, an owl, and more!

~Conservation Tips and Activities~

Generation Nature Booth at Wild Days ~ www.socalwithkids.com

SeaWorld Wild Days includes an area with lots of booths set up to help families learn about conservation in a fun atmosphere. Generation Nature™, Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute, the SeaWorld Busch Gardens Conservation Fund, and others are represented. Assorted booths include conservation tips, activities and more. SeaWorld trainers and veterinarians can also be found in this area answering questions from guests, as well as giving a variety of presentations throughout the afternoon. We came late in the day and didn’t get to spend a lot of time in this area so we look forward to heading back there on our next visit.

~SeaWorld Wild Days Is Happening Weekends In March~

SeaWorld Wild Days is included with park admission, and is happening on weekends, March 7th-28th, 2015. There’s no additional fee for the event, or activities related to it. The following are the weekend lineups:

• March 7-8: Conservation presentations by Jack Hanna & Julie Scardina.
• March 14-15: SeaWorld Team Members from the ABC ShowSea Rescue” giving presentations.
• March 21-22 & March 27-28: Generation Nature™ presentations that help inspire kids to become involved in conservation.

More information about SeaWorld Wild Days can be found by visiting the official SeaWorld San Diego website. Be sure to check with SeaWorld prior to your visit to verify event details, as they are subject to change. We can’t wait to return for more fun and educational learning experiences during the event. Perhaps we’ll see you there!

In Touch With Aquatic Life At SeaWorld San Diego’s Explorer’s Reef!

SeaWorld San Diego’s Explorer’s Reef

Explorer's Reef at SeaWorld
Explorer’s Reef, SeaWorld San Diego’s new “hands-in” exhibit is now open! I took a visit to SeaWorld the morning that they first opened it to the public to check it out. As a long time passholder, I’d been anticipating the day that they would debut the over year-long renovation.

SeaWorld San Diego Sign

Just as I imagined, Explorer’s Reef is gorgeous, and very true to the illustrations that portrayed the exhibit. The entire front of the Park, including ticketing and entry have all been completely redone. The changes are part of SeaWorld’s 50th Celebration, marking their half century anniversary in San Diego.

Coral Market At SeaWorld San Diego

I absolutely love the coral-like features incorporated with the architecture. It’s both colorful and lively. It makes you feel like you’re on an underwater adventure, and is the perfect enhancement to the Park. Even parts of the walkway have a shimmering surface like glistening water.

seaworldplants

Beautiful plants and flowers have been placed just right. The new additions included with Explorer’s Reef compliment the gorgeous garden-like feel of the Park. Super pretty ornamental fish trail up vines, and many succulents and drought resistant botanicals have been planted. I love that they’ve used tiny shells as ground cover in some places. SeaWorld has always had awesome gardeners!

Explorer's Reef

Explorer’s Reef provides ample shade for both the aquatic life, and those observing it. The touch-pools include a deeper area for the animals to have a quiet time if they choose. We actually watched a horseshoe conch make it’s way over to the deeper side of the pool after being in the shallow water for hours. It was cool observing it.

Explorer's Reef

Inside the four touch-pools of Explorer’s Reef you’ll find juvenile brown-banded bamboo sharks, white-spotted bamboo sharks, horseshoe crabs, round rays, cleaner fish, and horseshoe conch. Each of the aquatic life are native salt water species, except the cleaner fish, which are found in fresh water.

Cleaner Fish at Explorer's Reef

It’s nice that there kids, even toddlers like our own son, can reach into parts of the touch-pools of Explorer’s Reef. It’s fun to have the cleaner fish come up and tickle your fingers as they clean, clean, clean!

Explorer's Reef Touchpool

It’s super cool to touch the bamboo sharks and horseshoe crabs, too. I have yet to touch one of the round rays, but plan to on our next trip to the Park. I observed them for a while and was surprised how fast they swim across the pool.

Horseshoe Crab

If you’re a SeaWorld San Diego Premium Member, like myself, you get exclusive early entry to Explorer’s Reef from March 22nd – April 6, 2014. You can enter at 8:45am each day in that time period, with the exception of 3/29 & 4/5, which allow entrance at 7:45am. Details can be found in your FunTracker mailer. Lost your mailer? Click HERE, and navigate to the View All Benefitss link toward the middle of the page. If all else fails, call SeaWorld for details.

Explorer's Reef Sharks

The official unvieling of Explorer’s Reef is on Friday, March 21st, 2014, to coincide with SeaWorld’s 50th Celebration, but you can visit the exhibit now. More information can be found on the SeaWorld San Diego Website. As long-time passholders, we’ll be spending lots of time there this year enjoying the new exhibit. Perhaps we’ll see you there!

Move It, Move It at Madagascar Live! Operation: Vacation at SeaWorld San Diego!

Madagascar Live!

Madagascar Live! Operation: Vacation

An all new live interactive musical show, Madagascar Live! Operation Vacation, is now at SeaWorld® San Diego! We had the opportunity to see a sneak preview of the show, courtesy of SeaWorld®, just before opening day, and our kids each loved it!

Madagascar Live! Operation: Vacation will have you wanting to dance, clap, and sing along with the cast, including Madagascar characters Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo, King Julien, and the Penguins to name a few. Even our 9 month old baby was dancing in my lap!

“I Like To Move It, Move It!”

The production features a live band playing original and some favorite rock/pop music from Madagascar, with singers and dancers in the newly renovated Mission Bay Theater. It’s one of only two productions of its kind in the U.S., and will run year-round, with up to 8 shows per day!

The show is a 20 minute production, so it’s not too long, or too short. Guests have special meet and greet opportunities with the characters after the show, giving them the chance to take a picture or give a hug to their favorite performer. Unique Madagascar merchandise, exclusive to the Park, is available for sale as well.

For more information about Madagascar Live! Operation: Vacation, check out the SeaWorld® San Diego Website. We really enjoyed the show, and as pass members, we’ll likely be seeing it many times! Perhaps we’ll see you there!

————————————————————————-

As stated above, we were invited to preview Madagascar Live! Operation: Vacation. We received complimentary entry to SeaWorld® San Diego (although we are members). Pirate Reef at LEGOLAND® California

Pirate Reef is making a giant splash at LEGOLAND® California just in time for Memorial Day weekend! The multi-million dollar new ride at the family theme park in Carlsbad invites guests to plunge 25 feet down a chute between two massive pirate ships making a giant splash beneath a bridge below. The fun doesn’t stop there: Upon exiting, guests aim water cannons at each other from the ship of either Captain Blue Brick or Captain Red Brick and take a chance on getting drenched again as they walk the bridge between the two ships.

“Pirate Reef encompasses three things we know are already a hit with children: Water, LEGO® and pirates,” said LEGOLAND California Resort General Manager Peter Ronchetti. “This is an amazing addition to our rapidly growing Resort and I’m excited to see our guests’ reactions when they get to experience Pirate Reef for the first time this Memorial Day weekend.”

Throughout Pirate Reef, guests encounter more than 30 pirate-themed models including pirates, monkeys, parrots and frogs, all created out of more than 223,000 LEGO bricks. Pirate Reef is located between Pirate Shores and LEGOLAND Water Park making it the first of the more than 60 rides, shows and attractions at LEGOLAND California Resort that is accessible from both LEGOLAND Water Park and LEGOLAND California. Splashing down at 26 miles per hour, guests are guaranteed to get soaked on this new interactive ride at LEGOLAND California!

LEGOLAND® California Resort includes LEGOLAND California and SEA LIFE™ Carlsbad Aquarium, both geared for families with children between the ages of 2 and 12. At LEGOLAND California, you’ll find more than 60 rides, shows and attractions including the 5.5 acre LEGOLAND® Water Park, the all-new LEGO Star Wars Miniland and Pirate Reef opening this summer.
