Pachis ~ A San Diego Art Studio for Kids!

pachisPachis, an intimate art studio for kids, is located on Adams Ave., in the Normal Heights area of San Diego. Pachis offers workshops for kids age 4-12, open art studio times, and Summer Camp as well. Pachis believes in “providing a structured curriculum in an open environment the child artist can feel safe to express themselves”.

The kids & I visited the studio shortly after it opened, and had the opportunity to chat with the owner, Juliana. Juliana has a background in art, and much experience working with children. Her philosophy is to “Help children develop a greater sense of self and the world around them through art.” She believes that every child is born with an inherent creativity, and is excited to provide a “creativity space” for them to discover their own creative expression.

Pachis offers different art mediums for children to explore including painting, drawing, coloring, chalk art and more! They have both indoor and outdoor space, allowing kids to express their creativity in different environments. Parents have to option to drop their kids off to run errands, or simply have a little “me time”, by visiting one of the many local coffee shops or eateries.

Aside from the art workshops offered, Pachis displays art by local artists, and sells cute hand-made items in their Art Market. They offer the first art workshop for free (always check and confirm this is still in effect), making it great to try out and see if it’s the right fit for your child.

Pachis is open Tuesday through Saturday. Be sure to check out their website and Facebook page for detailed schedule info and more! Perhaps we’ll see you there!

This is not a sponsored post. We visited Pachis, enjoyed their free initial art workshop, and spoke with the owner. We believe it’s a fun place that our readers would like to visit as well.

Museum Month in San Diego!

Each February, for as many years as I can remember, the San Diego Museum Council, as well as Macy’s have been sponsoring Museum Month in San Diego. Forty different museums take part in the event, which allows people to visit participating museums at 1/2 off.

You need to pick up a free Museum Month Pass (available at Macy’s stores in San Diego, Temecula, and Imperial County) to receive the discount. One pass is good for up to 4 people, and from my experience, I’ve found they usually arrive at Macy’s just before the first of February. Just ask a Macy’s salesperson where to find one in the store, and take it with you to the museum(s) you want to visit to receive the discount.

This is a great way to experience some museums that you may have been wanting to take the family to visit, but just hadn’t had the opportunity to do so. I look forward to taking our kids to some museums we haven’t visited, as well as some we haven’t been to in a while.

San Diego has a lot of kid-friendly museums. Some of our favorite museums to visit with kids that are participating in Museum Month 2011 are as follows:

• The Escondido Children’s Museum
• The Birch Aquarium at Scripps
• The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center
• The San Diego Natural History Museum
• The New Children’s Museum
• The San Diego Model Railroad Museum
• San Diego Botanic Garden (formerly Quail)
• San Diego Air & Space Museum
• USS Midway
• Maritime Museum

If you’d like to see pictures from some of the many museums we’ve visited that are participating in Museum Month, take a look below. For a complete listing of participating museums, please check the following LINK. Get out there and explore some museums at 1/2 off in February with the Museum Month Pass! Perhaps we’ll see you there!
