Oma’s Pumpkin Patch, located at the Van Ommering Dairy, in the Lakeside area of San Diego, is lots of fun for the entire family! They have tons of fun Fall activities, all of which are included in the cost of admission. You can’t beat that!
Some of the activities at the pumpkin patch are a straw bale maze, sledding on Cottonseed Mountain, petting corral, several playground structures, hay ride, sand pile with tractors and trucks, hands-on games such as a bean bag toss, basketball toss, and so much more! They even have a special play area for kids under 5. Plenty to do for toddlers thru teenage years.
The pumpkin patch is decorated with fun Fall decor throughout. There are lots of large tractors and other farm related pieces throughout that are fun for picture taking. It’s fun to have the kids take a yearly picture next to the large measuring guide, to see how much they’ve grown from year to year. They also have a lot of the large painted board with cut-out faces which are great fun for pictures as well.
If you come with a group (such as a class, play group, or scouting troop) on a weekday morning, you can see the presentation “How Pumpkins Grow”. They have a special area for the educational presentation. If you’re planning to come with a group, please be sure to call in advance and make sure they have a time slot available.
You can bring snacks or lunch, and enjoy them under covered picnic tables. They also have food and cold drinks for sale at very reasonable prices. Our kids enjoyed some ice cream cups after jumping and playing. I thoroughly enjoyed some biscotti!
The Van Ommering Dairy is a working dairy farm. Be sure to take the hay ride around the property, and see the dairy cows. On the way to their barn, you’ll pass a field, where they grow grass using recycled water to feed the cows. We learned so much about the dairy cows and about life on the farm on the hay ride!
Oma’s Pumpkin Patch is open from 10am-7pm Tuesday thru Saturday until November 5th. We highly suggest you visit on an afternoon and stay through the evening. It’s far less crowded, and very comfortable with the cooler afternoon temperatures.
The cost for visiting the pumpkin patch is $7 per child over age 1, which includes a Jack Patch Pumpkin, a bottle of water, and all of the activities. One adult, age 16 & up is FREE with paying child; additional adults are $3 each. Water and pumpkins are not included for the adults, but are available for purchase.
Check out their website for more info. Also, be sure to take a look at all the pics below to see just how fun it is at Oma’s. The SoCal Kids are begging to go back, so perhaps we’ll see you there!
