Make Your Own Kind of Music at Mingei’s Family Sunday!

Mingei International Museum, located within San Diego’s Balboa Park, conducts a fun Family Sunday from Noon-4pm once a month. Mingei’s Family Sunday offers discount admission, of only $5 per family, or $3 for individuals. Attendees can explore the museum’s colorful exhibitions of folk art, craft and design, win a prize for completing a treasure hunt as well as participate in other activities such as storytelling and hands-on projects.

This month participants are invited to construct and decorate their own bazooka and participate in a Bombshell Boom Boom musical event with guest artist and musician Sean Conway. Please Note: This month’s Family Sunday is taking place on April 14th, 2013, one week prior to the normal Sunday, as not to coincide with the Earth Fair taking place the following week.

We’ve truly enjoyed the Family Sunday’s we’ve attended, and you can’t beat the price! It’s a great deal, and they always have fun activities for the littles. Perhaps we’ll see you there!

Mingei’s Family Sunday offers discount admission, of only $5 per family, or $3 for individuals. Celebrate the holidays with the music of the season. Join the Mingei on Sunday, December 16th, for a special holiday performance by the Girls Scouts Glee Chorus (1:30pm), while designing and decorating your own handmade bell inspired by the Museum’s new exhibition MAKE YOUR OWN KIND OF MUSIC.

We’ve truly enjoyed the Family Sunday’s we’ve attended, and you can’t beat $5 for the family! It’s a great deal, and they always have fun art activities for the littles. Perhaps we’ll see you there!

Paint Murals at Mingei’s Family Sunday!

Mural Painting for Family Sunday at Mingei International Museum

Mingei International Museum, located in the Balboa Park area of San Diego, conducts a fun Family Sunday from Noon-4pm the third Sunday of each month. Mingei’s Family Sunday offers discount admission, of only $5 per family, or $3 for individuals. Attendees can explore the museum’s colorful exhibitions of folk art, craft and design, win a prize for completing a treasure hunt as well as participate in other activities such as storytelling and hands-on projects.

The upcoming Family Sunday, on May 20th, 2012, will feature Mural Painting, led by Lucera Gallegos. Gallegos grew up surrounded by murals in northeast Los Angeles, says “Murals are a magnificent and powerful medium”. Join Lucera at Mingei and get messy collaborating on a large-scale piece of art! This will be a fun opportunity for families to be creative together!

Family Beading Craft for Family Sunday at The Mingei!

Our family loves Family Sunday at the Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park! Each third Sunday of each month they offer reduced admission from Noon to 4pm, and have a fun craft for Family Sunday participants. Admission is just $5 per family, or $3 for individuals.

This coming Sunday, January 15th, local San Diego artist Natasha Papousek, a professional henna artist and crafter from Crescent Moon Designs Henna Art will lead a family beading craft project. Each participant will get a hand-crafted polymer bead and have the opportunity to create a “one-of-a-kind” bracelet in celebration of the current exhibit, “The Art of Polymer Clay”.

Create A Collage at Mingei’s December Family Sunday!

On the third Sunday of each month the Mingei International Museum, located in San Diego’s Balboa Park, has a special Family Sunday with reduced admission from Noon to 4pm. Children and families can explore the Museum’s colorful exhibitions of folk art, craft and design, win a prize for completing a treasure hunt and participate in other activities such as storytelling and hands-on crafts.

Join artist and illustrator, Annika M. Nelson in creating your own collage using found papers, fabric and other materials for the December Family Sunday, on 12/18/11. Playing with shapes, layering textures and using favorite colors, artists of all ages and levels of experience will enjoy this hands-on opportunity to be creative. From portraits and more representational imagery to abstract compositions and patterns, Annika will assist participants in creating original art of their own design. Perhaps we’ll see you there!

Block Printing at Mingei for Family Sunday!

The next Family Sunday at Mingei International Museum is from Noon to 4pm on October 16th, 2011. Those attending have the opportunity to participate in block printing, an ancient craft form from India, with Amisha Kirit Desai. Participants will be making their own blocks and dyes from vegetables and spices, in addition to working with traditional wooden printing blocks.

In addition to the craft project and other fun activities, a screening of one of the films from a series on the history of Mexico, produced by filmmaker, author and historian Hector Tajonar, will be shown at 2pm. The screening is included with admission. Below is a list of the film upcoming screening events:
