We recently accepted an invitation to a hosted Press Stay at the Pacific Edge Hotel on Laguna Beach. We received accommodations for one night plus lunch at their on-site restaurant, The Deck for the purpose of review. Our opinions are our own.

Relaxing Family Travel At Pacific Edge Hotel!

The Pacific Edge Hotel, located in the heart of Laguna Beach, is close to shopping, restaurants, art galleries, and more. The hotel has a variety of accommodations ranging in size, and with different amenities. The property has two heated pools, a jacuzzi, easy beach access, WiFi included with your stay, and upscale dining options at two different on-site restaurants, The Deck and Driftwood Kitchen.

Easy Check-In and Check-Out

We found check-in and check-out very easy at the Pacific Edge Hotel. There were several people helping guests, and the wait time was minimal. A valet gave us a ticket for our car when we entered, and explained where to move it after we were assigned our room. (All vehicles are valet parked at the hotel.)

The lobby gives you a good feel of the ambiance of the hotel. Here you’ll find comfortable seating and pretty decor both inside and outside the lobby. A beautiful mural by a local artist adorns the wall of the lobby, and a surfboard is attached to the counter at check-in. Coffee, assorted publications, and a restroom are available upon entry. Two pretty birds, Bob, and Marley are fun to visit with as well.

Comfortable Accomodations

Accommodations at the Pacific Edge Hotel include Beach Front Rooms, less expensive Village Rooms, one and two bedroom Apartments which include a kitchenette, and an incredible Presidential Suite. The hotel also has beautiful daytime accommodations steps from the beach, known as The Bungalows.

We stayed in a Beach Front Room with a king size bed, located in the Surf Wing. Our accommodations had a full view of Laguna Beach. The main room had an adjoining bedroom with two single beds, perfect for kids! Both the main room and second bedroom had their own bathrooms, flat screen tv’s, separate entrances, and Keurig coffee makers with complimentary coffee. The main Beach Front Room had a balcony, wet bar, and the option of a microwave, refrigerator, and Pack-In-Play portable crib upon request.

We loved the decor and comfortable bedding in the Beach Front Room! We slept with the sliding glass door open so we could hear the waves. The sound of the waves crashing on the beach was incredibly relaxing!

Two Heated Pools, Jacuzzi, and Poolside Lounge Area

The Pacific Edge Hotel has two heated pools, a Jacuzzi, and a Poolside Lounge area with a ping pong table and shaded area to relax. Our room was very close to the pool with the Jacuzzi, and the other pool was located close to the entrance to the hotel. Our kids LOVED swimming in the pool!

Easy Beach Access with Comfortable Ammenities

The Pacific Edge Hotel has easy beach access, just steps from the hotel. As a mom traveling solo with three young children, I loved that the hotel had lounge chairs, beach chairs, beach towels, shade umbrellas, and beach toys available right at the beach for our use. It was SO nice to simply walk down to the beach and have all of the amenities right there for our use!

Two On-Site Restaurants

Aside from our accommodations, we were treated to lunch at the on-site restaurant, The Deck. The wait-staff were friendly, and we enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, and the view. The majority of the food is definitely for a more grownup appetite, but there are menu items such as grilled cheese with tomato soup, and hamburger with a side of chips on the menu. I loved that there was plenty of shade provided in the seating area. Upon exit I peeked into the beautiful adjoining restaurant, Driftwood Kitchen. It looks like a beautiful place to dine!

Dining At The Deck ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Ruby’s Diner, Johnny Rockets, Ralphs, and A Playground Nearby

If you forgot something at home, or simply want to pick up some snacks or drinks, there’s a Ralph’s grocery store about a block away. Main Beach Park, which includes a great playground, is a short distance away. Family-friendly restaurants, Ruby’s Diner and Johnny Rockets are both nearby. You can walk to Johnny Rockets from the hotel, but will need to drive to Ruby’s.

Fun To Visit The Nearby Pacific Marine Mammal Center

The Pacific Marine Mammal Center is a close drive, and fun to visit. It’s free to park, free to enter, and very educational. We highly recommend checking it out! (P.S. When you stay at the hotel you’ll find a cute stuffed seal in your room. If you choose to take it home, the proceeds from it go directly to this non-profit organization!)

Want a chance to stay at the Pacific Edge for free?!? The hotel is holding a giveaway for an overnight stay in an oceanfront Surf Tower room, PLUS other great giveaways as well! Click HERE for details, and entry. The last day to enter is May 8th, 2015.

Sunset From The Pacific Edge Hotel

All in all we had an incredible stay at Pacific Edge Hotel. Neither the kids, nor I, wanted leave. I’ve stayed at many beach-front hotels in different areas acround the world, and our stay at the Pacific Edge Hotel was by far one of the most relaxing and memorable of my stays. It was just what I needed for a night away. In my opinion, it would be a great hotel for travelers near or far.

More information about the Pacific Edge Hotel can be found on their website, www.pacificedgehotel.com. We look forward to booking a room another time in the future, hopefully for multiple nights! Perhaps we’ll see you there!

Explore and Learn At Pacific Marine Mammal Center In Laguna Beach

Explore and Learn At Pacific Marine Mammal Center!

The Pacific Marine Mammal Center, located in Laguna Beach, rescues and rehabilitates stranded sea animals such as sea lions and seals. Most of the stranded sea life they help are generally found along the beaches of Orange County. We made a visit to the Center, and loved learning about their rehabilitation efforts.

Non-Profit Organization Formed In 1971

The Pacific Marine Mammal Center is a non-profit organization, formed in 1971. They do their best to rehabilitate and return the animals they rescue back to the their natural habitat. They’ve cared for countless marine mammals over the years.

There’s no fee to visit the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, which is open to the public from 10am-4pm daily, except Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Day. They have a parking lot with free parking next to the Laguna Beach Animal Shelter. The Center is just steps past the shelter.

Pacific Marine Mammal Center ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Lots of Volunteers

The facility has a HUGE amount of volunteers! Some volunteers help care for the animals, others are docents that help visitors, and the on-site gift shop is also run by volunteers. The amount of volunteers varies both by season, and by the amount of sea life in their care. They generally have more rescues during the late Winter and early Spring, and need more volunteers at this time.

Pacific Marine Mammal Center ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Very Educational

There are several informational boards inside the Visitor Yard of the Center with details about different sea animals that they rescue. Docents are also available to share details about the animals in their care, and to answer questions. We found the docents to be very friendly and helpful! We left knowing a lot more than we did about rescued sea life than when we arrived.

Pacific Marine Mammal Center ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Separate Areas For Rehabilitation

The rescued animals at Pacific Marine Mammal Center are separated by size during their rehabilitation. Some animals come to the Center so emaciated that they need to be tube fed. There are quite a few different pools that the animals move to as they progress. It was neat seeing them interact with one another in their different areas.

Pacific Marine Mammal Center ~ www.socalwithkids.com

In-House Educational Programs & Camps

The Center offers a variety of educational programs for both kids and adults. Programs and camps include Mommy & Me Classes, school-age programs, an after-school program, and Scout programs. Adult programs and corporate presentations are offered as well.

The Pacific Marine Mammal Center accepts monetary donations, donations of goods from their Wish List, sponsorships, and of course, the donation of time. You can also support the Center by purchasing a Membership. Since they’re a non-profit, they can use all the help they can get!

Pacific Marine Mammal Center ~ www.socalwithkids.com

We found the Pacific Marine Mammal Center to be a neat and educational place to visit. You can find more information about the Center on their website at www.pacificmmc.org. We’ll be returning for another visit soon. Perhaps we’ll see you there!

Mickey’s Halloween Party Lights The Night At Disneyland!

Trick-or-treat! Mickey’s Halloween Party, a family-friendly event happens on select dates at Disneyland each Fall. I’ve already purchased a ticket to take our toddler, and can’t wait to go with him! Below are some details about the festivities.

Mickey’s Halloween Party

Mickey's Halloween Party ~ www.socalwithkids.com

A Special Party Requires A Special Ticket

Mickey’s Halloween Party happens during Halloween Time at Disneyland, but is a special nighttime event, requiring a separate ticket. It doesn’t matter if you’re already at Disneyland the day of the event, unless you have a purchased a party ticket, you will have to leave. Those that have purchased a ticket for Mickey’s Halloween Party receive a special wristband upon entry, and believe me, Cast Members DO check, and direct anyone without wristbands out of the Park.

Mickey's Halloween Party Ticket

An Event Ticket Is Less Expensive Than A Single Day Park Ticket

Tickets for Mickey’s Halloween Party are less expensive than a single day Park ticket. Pricing starts at $63, and goes up to $77 for Halloween night. Annual Passholders can receive a discount on tickets for certain nights. If you’re an AP, be sure to inquire about the special pricing. Children under 3 are FREE!

Halloween Time at Disneyland ~ www.socalwithkids.com

You Can Enter Disneyland 3 Hours Prior To The Party

Although Mickey’s Halloween Party is a nighttime event, you can enter Disneyland up to 3 hours prior to the start of the party. So, if the event starts at 6pm, you can enter as early as 3pm. This gives you 3 extra hours to explore The Happiest Place On Earth. I highly suggest taking advantage of these extra hours. There are so many incredible seasonal displays to see, and fun areas to take photos during the extra time before the party begins. If you head on over to the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree prior to about 4pm you should be able to take some time to enjoy the Halloween Carnival, which is closed during the evening.

Mickey's Halloween Carnival ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Kids of ALL Ages Can Participate In The Fun!

This event is one in which kids of ALL ages can dress up in costume and trick-or-treat! Part of the fun of the event is seeing all the people dressed up in costume. Some are amazing!

Halloween Time At Disneyland ~ www.socalwithkids.com

The Event Includes Parking

Unlike regular tickets to the Park, tickets to Mickey’s Halloween Party INCLUDE parking. Sweet! You must park in one of the lots designated for the Parks to receive free parking. There are tons of parking spaces designated for the Parks. I’ve been to the Parks hundreds of times and I’ve always been able to park in a designated lot for the Parks. If a lot or structure is full, a Cast Member will direct you to another lot.

Small World at Mickey's Halloween Party ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Trick-Or-Treating, A Parade, Fireworks and More!

Mickey’s Halloween Party includes loads of opportunities for safe trick-or-treating throughout the Park. The event also includes a special parade, dance party, awesome decorative displays, neat lighting, character photo opportunities, and more! Most rides and attractions are also open during the event as well.

Be sure to check the official Disneyland website for further details about Mickey’s Halloween Party. I’m really looking forward to taking our son. Perhaps we’ll see you there!

5 Reasons We Love Halloween Time At Disneyland!

Halloween Time at Disneyland is so fun, that we think it’s fabulous! As Disneyland Annual Passholders for many years, we’ve experienced this yearly event on many occasions. If you haven’t been to the Disneyland Resort at this time of year, you haven’t truly experienced Halloween in Southern California! Below are some of the reasons why we love visiting Disneyland during Fall.

Halloween Time At Disneyland!

Halloween Time at Disneyland ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Decor, Decor, Decor… Need I Say More?

Disney goes ALL out with neat seasonal decor. From the moment you enter the Disneyland Resort, you can’t help but notice all the beautiful Autumn-themed decor at Halloween Time at Disneyland! The entrance to Disneyland is decked out with gigantic, cute character pumpkin heads. At the beginning of Main Street USA you’re greeted by a gigantic Mickey pumpkin, perfect for taking a fun picture. The entire area is filled with festive banners, pumpkins, and more.

Pumpkin, Spice, and Everything Nice

Halloween Time at Disneyland means pumpkin, spice, and everything nice. Who doesn’t love tasty seasonal treats?!? Some of the seasonal treats that have been offered throughout the years are pumpkin lattes, pumpkin muffins, and pumpkin cheesecake. Delicious!

Halloween Time at Disneyland ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Characters Dressed For The Occasion!

Inside the Park, you’ll often find your favorite Disney characters dressed in special seasonal outfits at Halloween Time at Disneyland. There are plenty of character photo opportunities inside Big Thunder Ranch.

Halloween Time at Disneyland ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Carnival With Games, Crafts, and Entertainment Included

Along with seasonally dressed characters, you’ll also find a Halloween Carnival within the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree area of the Park, during Halloween Time at Disneyland. This area has carnival-style games, crafts, and even some fun entertainment.

Mickey's Halloween Carnival ~ www.socalwithkids.com

The crafts we’ve done in the past have been simple for all ages, including coloring with crayons on paper masks. We love visiting this area, playing the games, enjoying the live entertainment, and having special opportunities with some of our favorite characters.

Mickey's Halloween Carnival ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Here you might also see some pumpkin carvers working on some incredible, unique carved pumpkins! Their creations are true works of art!

Disney Carved Pumpkin ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Special Attractions and Tours

Some of the attractions are seasonally transformed during Halloween Time at Disneyland. The Haunted Mansion is changed to The Haunted Holiday Mansion, inspired by Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. I love this attraction, and I’m not even a huge Tim Burton fan. Space Mountain also boasts some seasonal changes, but since I’ve always visited with at least one little one too short (or too scared) to go on it, I haven’t experienced it first-hand.

Halloween Time at Disneyland ~ www.socalwithkids.com

Disneyland also offers a tour called Happy Haunts, which takes you to different areas in both Parks at the Resort. The Happy Haunts tour requires an additional fee.

The Park also has a fun, family-friendly event on select nights, called Mickey’s Halloween Party. This event requires a separate ticket, and often sells out prior to the event dates. If you’re interested in attending, you should look into purchasing your ticket(s) far in advance. You can read our post about Mickey’s Halloween Party HERE.

World of Disney at Halloween ~ www.socalwithkids.com

If there’s anything that gets me in the mood for Fall, it’s Halloween Time at Disneyland! Halloween Time at Disneyland runs from 9/12/14-10/31/14. Be sure to visit the Park’s official website for details about pricing, hours, and further . Perhaps we’ll see you there!

Recent Hotel Renovations

The hotel recently received many renovations, including updates to the lobby, front desk, meeting and event rooms, and more. I really liked the neutral colors, and beautiful chandelier hanging from the ceiling in the lobby. The lobby’s carpet had just been replaced the day before we arrived, and new, contemporary furniture had just arrived as well. It was really pretty, and super comfortable!

Snoopy Bedtime Tuck-In Rocks!

The Knott’s Hotel offers a super sweet Snoopy Bedtime Tuck-In, which my husband and I enjoyed just as much as the kids! Snoopy came to our room with another hotel employee just after 8pm, made sure we were ready for him, and tucked the kids in bed for the night. We took some cute pictures, and I even got a little snuggle from Joe Cool as well. The service is only available in 18 select rooms, located in the Snoopy-themed wing. We brought our own plush Snoopy and Woodstock, but guests can receive up to 2 plush Snoopy dolls when staying in one of the special Snoopy-themed rooms. Contact the hotel for details.

Portable Cribs and Rollaways Available

Since we were traveling with our baby, I requested a portable crib. They promptly had it delivered to our room, which already had two comfortable Queen size beds. The Pack ‘N Play was clean, and our baby slept well in it. I’m not sure if anyone else in my family noticed, but I thought it was super cute that it matched the decor perfectly! Rollaway beds are also available up request and availability. I think it’s about $15 extra for a rollaway, and I know they’re only available in certain rooms.
