On Set At The LEGO Movie Experience At LEGOLAND!
If you’re like most every American, you’ve likely already seen The LEGO Movie. It’s been a hit with viewers both young and old. The LEGO Movie Experience At LEGOLAND California opened shortly after the release of the film, and has become a popular new attraction at the theme park, located in the Carlsbad area of San Diego. As annual passholders, we’ve already gone to see it several times!
The LEGO Movie Experience is basically like walking onto the Warner Brother’s set, during the basement shots of the movie. You know, the part where Will Ferrell, “Lord Business“, has the entire basement filled with an enormous LEGO display? Aside from the display, the basement is filled with a gazillion LEGO pieces organized in drawers, arranged just right, and would be the envy of any LEGO-loving person on the planet.
The set inside The LEGO Movie Experience is the actual set used during the basement scene used in the movie, and took 4 LEGO Model Builders six weeks to reassemble after all the pieces were sent down to LEGOLAND. It features over 1200 LEGO models, made with over 3 MILLION LEGO bricks! Viewing it is like being behind the scenes when the movie is being filmed. It’s a really neat experience!
Not only will you see the main display featured in the movie at The LEGO Movie Experience, but you’ll also see the stairs leading to the basement, the desk and working space from the film, the laundry area, and more. There are two screens mounted to the ceiling, showing bits and pieces of the movie, as well as commentary about it as well. There’s also a couple of really nice guys, Marty and Dirk, that give information over a microphone. Don’t be shy to ask them questions!
It’s fun to see the famous worlds from the movie, right in front of you, including Old West, Bricksburg, Cloud Cuckooland, and others. It’s also neat to search for characters from the movie, including Emmet, Unikitty, Batman, and Wyldstyle. I believe there are several of each of the main characters throughout the display.
Aside from all the pieces used in the original display from The LEGO Movie, the LEGOLAND Model Builders have added just a couple of fun touches of their own to display. If you look hard enough, you’ll find (what I’m told are) the actual Tegan and Sara LEGO Minifigures from the “Everything Is Awesome” video.
You’ll also find a LEGO rendition of The Beatles album cover for “Abbey Road”, with the four Mop Tops as Minifigures. Two other additions include a dog room inside one of the buildings, and an “exploding toilet”. The aforementioned Tegan and Sara Minifigures can be found at the front of the main display, and the dog room and exploding toilet are at the back of the display.
While at Opening Day of The LEGO Movie Experience, we had the opportunity to meet Jadon Sand, who plays the part of Finn, the son of Lord Business (played by Will Ferrell) in The LEGO Movie. The kids were excited to meet him, and have him sign posters for them. When you enter The LEGO Movie Experience you’ll see a poster signed by him, as well as the rest of the characters from the movie.
The LEGO Movie Experience is included with admission (either ticket or pass) to LEGOLAND California. It’s scheduled to be there through at least the end of 2014, possibly longer. More information about the exhibit can be found on the LEGOLAND Website. Considering we make almost weekly visits to the Park, I’m sure we’ll be seeing it over and over again. Perhaps we’ll see you there!
