We Love Butterfly Jungle at the Safari Park!
As members of the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park for many years, we’ve visited Butterfly Jungle more times than we can count. The past few years we’ve been invited to media events to explore the exhibit prior to opening day, and share our experiences with our readers and followers. Here are 5 reasons why we love Butterfly Jungle:
5 Reasons We Love Butterfly Jungle
1. Butterfly Jungle Is Included With Admission
Unlike many other butterfly exhibits, Butterfly Jungle at the Safari Park is included with admission. Pay for your day, or use your San Diego Zoo membership, and admission to the exhibit is free! You can’t beat that!
2. Very Educational
Butterfly Jungle is very educational. There are many different species of butterflies inside the exhibit, as well as some birds, and neat botanicals as well. You can view and download printable Butterfly and Botanical ID Guides off the Safari Park’s website prior to your visit to make it even more educational.
3. Up Close Experience
You get an up close experience with the butterflies at Butterfly Jungle. Butterflies fly all around the Hidden Jungle area where the exhibit is held, giving you the opportunity to see many very close to you. It’s common to have them fly on your clothing, and I’ve been told they’re especially likely to be attracted to bright colors. I’ve personally has them fly on both colorful and neutral colored clothes.
4. Timed Entry
Some of the entry times to Butterfly Jungle are timed, so you know when it’s your turn to visit the exhibit. Get to the Park early, go to the table near the Hidden Jungle, and ask for your timed entry. They do run out of timed entry spaces, so it’s a good idea to get yours early, to guarantee your entry into Butterfly Jungle without having to wait in line. In my opinion, this is SO much better than waiting in a long line, when you could be enjoying the rest of the Park. Believe me, we used to wait, and wait and wait before this process was put in place. Love it! If you miss the opportunity for a timed entry, you can still have an opportunity to enter Butterfly Jungle, you just might have to wait a while. Check out the Butterfly Jungle section of the Safari Park’s Website for details on which entry times are set for timed entry, and which are not.
5. Butterfly Jungle Contests
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park holds contests for guests to participate in before, during, and after visiting Butterfly Jungle, including a kids’ coloring contest, and Instagram contest. Details can be found HERE.

We love Butterfly Jungle, and I wouldn’t doubt if we go a few times this year. Don’t forget, the exhibit is at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park (formerly the Wild Animal Park), in Escondido, California, not at the Zoo’s downtown location. Check the Safari Park’s Website for dates and times the exhibit will be open. Perhaps we’ll see you there!
Many thanks to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park for inviting us to experience Butterfly Jungle prior to opening day. We do not work for any brand mentioned in this article, nor do we have any official relationship with them. We love Butterfly Jungle, and believe many of our readers would be interested in the event. Our opinions are our own.
